Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Many people don’t realize the risks involved when they stop drinking alcohol. The dangerous symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, which can be fatal, can occur whether you are a heavy drinker or have just been drinking for a short time. To ensure safety and reduce risks, medically-supervised detox is advised.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms begin within 6 – 48 hours and peak about 24 – 35 hours after the last drink. Some of the symptoms of withdrawal are:

  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Agitation
  • Shakiness
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Fever, increased pulse rate
  • Blood pressure increases or drops
  • Mental disturbances

The City View medical team, under the direction of Dr. David Henderson, is prepared to monitor alcohol detox symptoms and treat additional conditions that may co-occur during withdrawal, such as irregular heartbeat, anemia, or seizures. Medically-supervised detox is highly recommended for clients who have made the decision to stop drinking.
